The Bank Balance Is Not the Answer.
Most small businesses run on the bank balance. It is the one number that is always to hand, and it is the one number that tells you least — it does not know what you owe, what you are owed, or what the month actually cost you.
Bookkeeping is supposed to answer that. It only does if the books close on a schedule, reconcile to something outside themselves, and produce statements a lender would accept. That is the work on this page.
Books that close, and statements you can hand to a lender
We close the books monthly and reconcile rather than categorize and hope, and we work in the accounting system you already use. We prepare your financial statements — profit and loss, balance sheet and statement of cash flows — monthly, quarterly or annually.
What We Handle
Monthly close
Books closed every month and reconciled to the bank and the subledgers — rather than categorized and hoped over.
Financial statements
Profit and loss, balance sheet and statement of cash flows — monthly, quarterly or annually — with period-over-period comparison and a note on what actually moved.
Payroll
Pay runs and the filings behind them, including the state wage floors that move every January and do not move on the same schedule as each other.
Contractors and 1099s
A W-9 on file before the first payment, not after the year closes, and the year-end forms that follow from your vendor file.
Cleanup and catch-up
If the books need rebuilding we will say so and price that separately, rather than burying it in a monthly fee.
Budgets and projections
Forward-looking work — budgets, forecasts and cash projections built off your own numbers — sits in Advisory & Planning. Clean books are what make it worth doing.
A Lease Moves the Ratios Your Lender Tests
And if you lease space, that lease is on your balance sheet: ASC 842 is fully effective for private companies, and the right-of-use asset and matching liability move the ratios your lender is testing. Worth knowing before a covenant test rather than after.
Where We Start
Send three things:
We will tell you what shape you are in, what it takes to get current, and what the ongoing work would cost. If the books need rebuilding we will say so and price that separately rather than burying it.
